We’ve got Indian monsoons to thank for Fortissio Lungo coffee, an intense blend with sweet cereal and malty toasted notes. During the monsoon season, beans from plantations in Karnataka, southwest India, are thinly raked on the floor of warehouses on the Malabar Coast, and exposed to the wind and rain coming in through the open sides .
Known as “monsooning”, it recreates the distinct flavour of West Indian coffee which developed by chance while it was being transported to Europe in wooden-hulled ships in the 18th century.
As well as the Monsooned Malabar, Arabica we’ve included washed Colombian Arabicas. We split-roast the two varieties, which involves roasting beans of a similar size and density together to bring out their best characteristics. The sweet cereal and malty toasted notes are balanced by a lovely bitterness and a round and smooth texture.
